Is Knorr Taste Quest a failed master chef copycat experiment??

I used to be a foodie, but now I am just a passive foodie which kinda means in my "Vocab" that I love food, I love to eat good food,I love to look at good food,I love to watch cookery shows,I love to watch chefs cook and "design" Plates going out to diners but I dont necessarily cook every dish or experiment with every recipe I come across.

-Because cooking is sometimes tedious
-why should i do it when i can pay for it
-I would rather watch a squid dish being prepared than being brought to my own table
-Some dishes may not just fit into My "very Nigerian" Palate
-Some dishes are  prob actually just experiments off the chef's hyped imagination
-I have to watch what I eat;as we all don't have the same Metabolism rates.

Right! I hold my hands up I did not watch Knorr taste quest season 1 and I am not sure if it was the same format as it is now.The Masterchef format which I think the show follows has been franchised in so many countries,Australia,Canada,New Zealand and lots more, but  I think this show needs a revamp!  Ild tell you why!

-The Judges  are killing the show

DR Robert:
Ild start with him! He reallt thinks he is the best thing since we discovered we could see our reflections in the mirror.

He is an executive chef for that i doff my hat but! he so much drives panic into the hearts of the contestants.
There was an episode i watched and I could virtually see the contestant presenting her food to the judges heaving heavily, her heart going up and down and trembling in fear for what now.. I mean this guy was still asking what was Gizdodo and dint even know what a bechamel sauce was hello??!

His use of the word "Hot mess" ohh my! say that again Dr Robert and amma break my TV! There is no standard critic or feedback for the contestants, if the food is bad how do they improve for next time??

I grew up using Knorr in my house and since age say 6-7 that i Knew the way to the kitchen to go have a "look" at wats happening there, knorr has been the favourite seasoning I am used to, so to have this guy keep pronouncing it Knorr with the K ,I just dont get it! Is that the french pronunciation?? lemme get it doc!

The Masterchef format which I believe was replicated on this show is to mentor and create better cooks and along the line someone edges the others and wins it.
I say edges because they all become so good and improve their craft but all this judge does his critique critique critique and put people down.its so not good viewing.

Chef Renee:

The last time I checked Chef Renee's name was Seun Chukwuemeka so was so suprised to see Chef Renee cos I used to watch her on soundcity when she was a presenter so suddenly you go to Cordon Bleu and your name suddenly becomes french?? #Rme and you begin to speak in accents we dont understand..its Nigerian TV remember!

Chef Renee who is regarded as a sous chef comes on the show and acts so sad and out of place I mean someone pays me to be on telly to judge what I am passionate about, food! and I cant seem to even oblige a smile??! Cmon!

She says words like "I dont like it" "I dont care for it" "Dont ever bring salad to this table" "It was tasteless" it" was under cooked" it was overcooked" " Am not gonna touch that!"??
I mean that is someone's sweat and toil, where's your diplomacy gone? the last time I checked a sous chef still answers to the head chef so cool it down
You may be judging some people who have been cooking for years longer than your whole career!

Chef Fregz

I love Chef Fregz,he is passionate about food,he loves what he does and he exudes that, and I think he is the only judge on the show at the moment who is competent and knows what he is saying! and doing!

Chef fregz is not afraid to say ohhhh that was so good I would need a recipe.
He's not afraid to say ohhh that was so good I would pay good money for that.

On the flip-side he points out faults without putting the contestants down you hear words like that dint taste as good as you have wanted it am sure,if only you had added a little bit more seasoning or even jokes that thank GOD I just had my teeth checked or did you want to send me to my dentist with that steak it was so tough bla bla bla so no one feels put down or out of place.

I just want chef fregz to assert his authority and show the contestants more of his skills so they can learn more not just cook and go so even if they do not win they will take away some knowledge.

The Structure of the episodes needs to be rearranged:

I think the episode production should be rearranged to make it more enjoyable  for viewers.

Its particularly bland at the minute, just some ingredients, cook, present to the judges sometimes I forget there is a presenter, there probably isn't even need for a presenter.

Its called taste quest I havent seen a taste task so far! Get the contestants to do a taste challenge, taste some ingredients blindfolded, cook without fire,de-bone a whole chicken, fillet some salmon, slaughter a fresh goat, cook beans 5 ways or something interesting add more fun to keep people glued.

I remember watching Masterchef Australia and I usually never waited for the next episode to come on ,I would go looking for it online to watch, and from the online stats for Masterchef Australia,it was one of the most watched shows in that country.

A cookery programme in Nigeria can achieve that too!

In all I know this is Nigeria, and there are factors that mitigate against a good production,I applaud the Knorr taste quest producers for their efforts so far, we only want them to get better and ohhh btw my Fav contestants are Doom,Dixon, victor(ohhh well before he was evicted)

Now off to watch the next episode!

  4. For once Nigerians appreciate your work. The show has brought a new direction to TV in Nigeria, tired of the Kim K wannabe shows. Kudos to Knorr for bringing food alive to Nigerian homes.

  5. The KTQ obviously has some flaws like every and any show is bound to have. But, I personally think the show is great. It has fresh content and it's like nothing we have in Nigeria. It's all about food, I love food and so I'd keep watching. Every food lover should as well.

  6. In my opinion Knorr is doing a good job everything in Nigeria is about sing, dance, talent etc. that's overcrowded. I think Dr Robert should be more lenient, he started from somewhere but its really good to see the contestant combine ingredients u can never imagine and create wonderful meals. It just shows you the kind of chefs Knorr is trying to produce. People that would think outside the box.

  7. Thank you all for your comments..Trust me I believe KTQ are doing a good job and a critique is just to make them do better cos it sure can be better

I agree its a fresh concept for the Nigerian terrain but some adjustments and fine tuning still need to be done to make it more interesting, enjoyable and refreshing to watch especially concerning the judges since they kind of direct the whole show..

Thank you all for stopping by xx
